Parallel Blue crosses the finishing line 27th in their class in the Round the Island Race after unusually testing conditions

An eight-person crew of Parallel Blue took part in the Round the Island Race, one of the largest yacht races in the world, to raise funds for Space for Giants.

The race, founded in 1931, had 1,528 entries this year, and took place in far stronger winds than were originally anticipated – gusts of 30-40 knots were recorded on the south side of the island. Nonetheless, the Race for Giants team successfully crossed the finishing line 27th in their class and elated after an exhilarating and challenging eight-hour race.

Mark Godsey, a Race for Giants 2016 crew member and VP of JP Morgan Asset Management said: “I can’t just let my species wipe out another without doing something about it – raising my small alarm and at least making some sort of an attempt to stop it. Plus, I enjoy sailing and an adventure and what an adventure it was!”

Space for Giants will use all of the money raised to protect African elephants and the landscapes they depend on.

* Thank you to Mark Richardson for so generously sponsoring Parallel Blue, and the crew for taking on this challenge and raising funds for Space for Giants. Race for Giants 2016 won’t have been possible without your support!
