The Giants Club will stage Africa’s first Conservation and Tourism Investment Forum on 6th October 2017 in Uganda.
Uganda has Africa’s fastest growing elephant population but, with urgent development needs and limited budgets, the country lacks adequate financial resources to fully support its conservation requirements.
The Conservation and Tourism Investment Forum (CTIF) will be a unique opportunity to harness the financial muscle of the world’s leading conservation-compatible businesses, including hotel and lodge operators, to raise vital funds to support and protect Uganda’s wildlife.
The country’s President, Yoweri Museveni, said: “This is an important step in our commitment to unlocking the new and innovative investment models needed to effectively protect our most beautiful landscapes and wildlife for the benefit of the Ugandan people.”
The CTIF Programme is as follows (it can also be found here Forum Programme):
The Giants Club has worked with partners the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) to assist the Ugandan government in identifying which of the country’s 3.1 million hectares of wildlife zones would suit new international investment. Uganda’s CTIF will present a compelling case for conservation investment across 10 high-value protected areas to interested companies (read about the Uganda Investment Opportunities).
These sites are identified as suitable and ready to attract responsible investment in either conservation tourism enterprise or protected area co-management – both supported by an investment framework developed in partnership between Space for Giants and the Government of Uganda to be announced at the CTIF.
Following the CTIF, a series of events will be staged across the world to widen the reach of the initiative by showcasing Uganda’s conservation investment opportunities. These will highlight the new investment framework, and convey how potential investors can work with conservationists to protect the country’s ecosystems.
The CTIF will be held at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf and Spa in Kigo District.
